Our owner, Tommy Hutcherson, proudly serves as Chairman of the Board, dedicating time and leadership to ensure the station remains a vibrant part of island life. He also hosts a weekly radio show which you can hear on Ocracoke Community Radio/WOVV at 90.1FM.
Each year, Ocracoke Variety Store proudly donates time and resources to support the Ocracoke Fireman’s Ball—a cherished community fundraiser known for its BBQ dinner and lively celebration. Our founder, Julia Hutcherson, was a devoted advocate for the Fire Station, contributing years of volunteer work and generous support, including the donation of valuable land that now serves as the site for essential fire services. Her legacy continues to hold deep meaning for our team and the entire island.
We are proud supporters of the Ocracoke 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon events. These races draw participants from across the region and showcase the beauty and endurance of our island community. Ocracoke Variety Store contributes time and logistical support to help these events succeed year after year.

Ocracoke has a rich musical history, and we’re proud to be part of it. Our owner, Tommy, has been deeply involved in the local music scene for decades. From his early days with The Graveyard Band to later collaborations with the legendary Martin Garrish in The Graveyard Band Revived, Tommy has also performed with Rumors, Silver Lake Band, The Ocracoke Rockers, and currently, Ray McAllister Band. Supporting live music means supporting the soul of our community.
